Calling all midwives, birth assistants, nurses and birth workers!
I’m reaching out today to let you know that I am hosting a Birth Emergency Skills Training® Workshop (B.E.S.T.) and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification on [Dates]. It will not only bring us together as a community, to spend time connecting and nourishing the bonds with one another, but we will get to review and practice all the emergency skills that we so rarely have to use. And that is precisely how we can help improve outcomes, stay up to date and refine and improve our emergency management skills.
Oh! And we get 29 contact hours for our efforts from MEAC and for those of you who need nursing CEU’s, B.E.S.T. provides that too upon request.
So, the B.E.S.T. workshop is a two part process:
- 21 hours of content is delivered online. The online program opens about 30 days before the workshop so you will have lots of time to review it.
- The online component walks participants through the essential steps in managing birth emergencies and includes B.E.S.T. concepts, mnemonics and algorithms, smooth transport, early recognition, stabilization and management of emergencies that can occur during pregnancy and predominantly, labor and birth.
- Your host will send you a link to register for the online program about a month prior to the workshop and it must be completed before attending the live component including a passing grade on the 2 quizzes (25 questions each) included.
- The Live workshop begins at 9:00am and runs all day ending at 6:15pm. So it’s a full day of actual practice with life-like models.
- Participants practice individual skills at specific tables and then are encouraged to get ‘birthing’ using the strap on models to play out a variety of birth emergencies. This provides a vital step to not only practice the skills but integrate them with a real person which provides the opportunity to practice communication (with birthing person, your team, other’s present, and emergency services) and managing the energy of the room.
It’s a super fun, lively and an extremely beneficial workshop. The instructors create a safe space for learning through simulations with ample opportunity to practice skills repeatedly and develop the essential muscle memory required to smoothly, effectively and efficiently manage birth emergencies.
- Also, often offered is a full day Suturing Practice workshop with life long access to the online component so you can return and practice again and again.

The cost of the workshop is $565 + $35 registration fee paid online when registering for the online component. I am collecting a [deposit] with registration. Payment in full is required by [date]. Keep in mind that there are no refunds. If you are unable to attend, you will receive a ‘Raincheck’ which you can use to attend any other workshop happening within the year.
