You must complete approximately 16 hours of online learning in preparation for the hands-on workshop. This includes achieving 80% or higher on the 2 quizzes, at the end of the curriculum, created in a way to reinforce key concepts and not to trick :) You may take them multiple times so there is no need to stress over it.

How do I get the most out of the online program?

The online program is packed full of powerpoint video presentations, video demonstrations, reflection and learning exercises and more. First and foremost, take your time, go back to the materials and repeat lessons, revisit and write new protocols or insights gained as you learn, explore the reflection questions and discuss with others participants if you like. There is a lot of information and taking it in in small chunks is the best way to retain the information. The program keeps track of your progress, please remember to press 'Lesson Complete'  after each and every lesson so the computer program can no this accurately.

What is the schedule for the day?

The hands-on skills day is a busy and full day of learning and practicing new skills with other birth workers. The more you participate and practice both at the skills stations and with strap-on models --- to act out birth scenarios, the more you will get from the day.  Get a good nights sleep, Dress comfortably and come prepared to learn and practice!

The following is a rough schedule of the day. We are always flexible to individual needs which may affect the times outlined below :)

8:45 to 9:00 - arrive, sign in and settle in

9:00 - 9:30 ~ group discussion and introductions

9:30 - 11:15 ~ Group divides into two groups in two separate rooms of active learning and practice.

11:15 - 11:45 ~ small group debriefing and birth story sharing related to emergencies / skills just reviewed.

11:45 - 1:30 ~ small group switches room and continues active learning and practice.

1:30 - 2:30 ~ lunch (please bring your own as there is not enough time to go out to eat)

2:30 - 4:00 ~ active learning and practice in small groups

4:00 - 4:15 ~ small group debriefing and birth story sharing related to emergencies / skills just reviewed.

4:15 - 5:45 ~ active learning and practice in small groups

5:45 ~ at this time we will gather as a group and do one more exercise together followed by questions and closing remarks.

Aside from lunch, there are two built in opportunities for sharing stories in the form of debriefings as we know that sharing experiential knowledge (what worked, what did not work, how might we change things in the future), is this is one of the best ways midwives learn from one another.
